Takao Miyoshi's latest game Pole's Big Adventure was released on Japan's Virtual Console today for 500 Wii Points. The game sees the Pole the Sheriff traversing the land in order to save his girlfriend, Sharon, from the evil Poacher.
GameTrailers released another video of the game yesterday, this time showcasing the second world which is set in the jungle. These levels are just as weird as the first - you even change into a different, more heroic character at one point. It also seems that the usually deadly water does not affect you!
Apparently, the full game features over one hundred levels. That sounds good as many of the levels on the videos are extremely short! I hope some reviews of the game are released soon, then us in the West can find out if the game is any good.

Watch the first world of Pole's Big Adventure
Over on GameTrailers, a new gameplay video of Pole's Big Adventure has been released. The whole first world is shown, complete with boss fight.
The worlds are set out in standard Super Mario Bros. format, that is "World #-#". In the video we see World 1-1 to World 1-3.
The game is very reminiscent of joke Mario game Syobon Action, with unexpected traps and cruel deaths. In one instance, a cactus that appears to be part of the background cuts your head clean off!
I think the game is looking brilliant, and I'm sure it'll be a hit with retro fans such as myself. Here's hoping the game sees a Western release.

Pole's Big Adventure website open!

The recently revealed game Pole's Big Adventure has now got its own website, and this time it isn't a countdown timer! The website is nice and colourful, but it's almost impossible to navigate without any knowledge of Japanese.
A trailer for the game has been found on a Japanese video site, accessed here. The game looks very promising, although it has some very obvious Mario references.
It turns out that the main character is not a fireman, but a sheriff. The aim of the game is to save "Sharon" from the evil "Poacher" using your gun. The enemies in the game seem to be humans wearing animal heads, such as those of mooses and crocodiles. It has a release date of February 3rd in Japan.
I really hope they release the game in the West, although on multiple platforms. I would love to be able to get this on the PlayStation Network!

Let's look at Takao Miyoshi's latest game

I'm sure many of you will have read about the countdown site for the latest Miyoshi game. Well, yesterday it was finally revealed: Pole's Big Adventure!
It uses 8-bit graphics, intended to mock games released on the NES. Lots of inside jokes will be present on each level, such as the end-of-level castles on Super Mario Bros. and Bowser-esque bosses.

As for the name, I think the main character is meant to be a fireman. And firestations have poles! It all makes sense. Perhaps he will slide down a pole at the end of each level, like Mario's flagpole.
The title is set for release on WiiWare in Japan for 500 Wii Points. Due to the "themes", it will get a 12+ rating. There has been no word of a wordlwide release as of yet.
P.S. The screenshots are from a scan of Famitsu, with the most confusing thing on the page being scoop hunter Necky the Fox here:
