The Master System port of Irem's R-Type is coming to the Virtual Console, priced at 500 Wii Points. It is scheduled for a Japanese release on May 19th, with no dates set for a worldwide release.
The TurboGrafx-16 version is currently available on the North American and European stores, the Master System version being the second port of the game available.
Considered a shooting game classic, the Master System port is generally considered one of the best. Back in 1989, C+VG gave the game 87%:
R-Type is by far the best blast available on the Sega, so it goes without saying that no shoot-'em-up fan should be without it.Although no dates have been given for a European and North American release, I would expect it to appear this summer.
