Today in an interview with GI.biz, Sega's Darren Williams has labelled the Nintendo Wii as "the most expensive board game on Earth".
"I think on one hand the Wii has become the most expensive board game on Earth - it's the kind of thing that families will play at Christmas, and probably won't play again throughout the remainder of the year. So things like Wii Sports, Wii Fit to a certain extent, that's great."
I would have to agree with him completely. Millions of families will get a Wii this Christmas, and will not play it again until another holiday. Some won't ever touch it again. The Wii is only a serious console for a small group of people, with most hardcore gamers opting for the PS3 or Xbox 360.
Kotaku is speculating what will happen when these "new" gamers get sick of training their brains and wiggling a stick around. Could a "video game crash" occur, much like the one in 1983? We'll have to see what happens over the next year.
