Sonic Unleashed was what "Sonic fans had been wanting to see"

In a Destructoid interview, producer of Sonic Unleashed Yoshihisa Hashimoto has said that the game aimed to be what "the Sonic fans had been wanting to see". Well, they got the side-scrolling element partly right, but I don't think this is what the fans were really hoping for.

He says that he "take[s] notice of what the fans and press think" and "check[s] blogs and bulletin boards worldwide almost every day". For a while we've been telling Sega to actually read blogs and forums to see what the fans want, and we get presented with a stupid werehog and yet another annoying new "friend" when they do!

Perhaps Sonic Unleashed is what the younger generation want - those who have grown up with the 3D Sonic titles and know no better. But it is certainly not what the older fans want who experienced Sonic in his heyday.

Hashimoto says that "as a team, we have been trying our best to answer what all the fans have been waiting for". They unfortunately missed the mark, but at least this is a step in the right direction. Bring on a new 16-bit Sonic title, please!
