Sonic 2 released on the Virtual Console
Yesterday, the Master System version of Sonic 2 was released on the Wii's Virtual Console. It is retailing at 500 Wii Points and is currently only available on the North American store.
I have the game on the Master System, and it is very good. If you were expecting a port of the Mega Drive version, then you'd be wrong. Instead, this a completely different game that was actually released before the Mega Drive version.
The games have no levels in common, but this doesn't mean that they aren't good. I struggle to get past the second and third levels, so it is definitely harder than the Mega Drive version. Although Tails does feature in the game, he is not playable and you rarely see him - he doesn't follow Sonic like he does on the Mega Drive.
I would recommend buying this game, but the actual cartridge version. Playing the game on the original console with a joypad beats an emulated version every time, as does owning a physical copy of the game.
